Event information

London was central to Sherlock Holmes. The famous consulting detective was first encountered in his chemistry lab in St Bartholomew’s Hospital, and as everyone knows he operated out of rooms in Baker Street, from where he responded to calls for assistance from all over the capital, and from farther afield. Conan Doyle’s biographer Andrew Lycett puts Sherlock Holmes is his context – both geographically and culturally – with reference not just to the detective himself but also to the experience of his ultimate creator Conan Doyle.

Andrew Lycett is a respected biographer who has thrown light on the lives of figures ranging from Colonel Muammar Gadaffi and Dylan Thomas to Ian Fleming and Arthur Conan Doyle.
