María Cristina aka “La Flamenquita” is a Flamenco dancer, performance artist and teacher who brings Spanish traditions and culture to the city of Bath. Originally from Madrid, she arrived in Bath seventeen years ago with the aim of developing her teaching career. The life experiences she has had in Bath have given her the opportunity to grow as an artist as well as a teacher!
María Cristina has what they call in Spain "Salero" - Irrepressible zest that comes from her cultural roots. She has always had a passion for music and dance, and has been performing all her life since she was a small child, starting with the renowned dance group “La Peña de los Olivares.”
After a few years in Bath she realised that she wanted to share this passion and began teaching community classes for both children and adults. Her classes have attracted a wide variety of people of all ages reflecting her aspiration for “Flamenco for All”
“La Flamenquita” presents her community troupe of dancers.

María Cristina believes that music and dance bring enormous benefits both physical and mental and she has recently been part of a research project looking at Dance as Therapy.

From the very beginning she has encouraged her fellow dancers to participate in performances, such as community events, a dance anniversary in Southbank, Bristol, several times at the annual Keynsham Festival and Bath Carnival and once even a fantastic Flashmob in Bath!
