David Boulter is a founding member of Tindersticks, he has made over 20 studio albums and film soundtracks with the band. Nottingham born, but based in Prague since 1998, under his own name he has worked on music for many films. These include an eight-part serial Pustina/Wasteland for HBO Europe, the American movie Five Nights In Maine and two documentaries with Turkish/Belgian director Volkan Uce.
David produced his first solo album the critically acclaimed ‘Yarmouth’ for Clay Pipe in 2020, then in 2021 Clay Pipe released his Christmas flexi disc EP ‘Twelve Bells for Libuše’. His third release for the label the long form track ‘Factory’ will be available on mini CD on the night, inspired by childhood memories of the lace factory in Nottingham where his mother worked.
His work is mainly instrumental, mixing electronic and acoustic elements,
inspired by memories of places or wonder of nature and the landscape., even the ugliness of a decrepit housing estate found beauty.
He will be performing a selection of music from all his solo releases.
"As a founding member of Tindersticks, it’s not surprising that Yarmouth possesses an abundance of the romance and charm that was so beloved of the band’s music. Boulter has a genuine appreciation of the transporting qualities inherent in the music of film and television, and with his added experience as a frequent collaborator with French film maker Claire Denis, brings a natural sense of narrative to the Clay Pipe Music release." As ambient folk artist Black Brunswicker, Etta Helfrich creates rich ground for reflection with roaming instrumentals closely rooted in nature, casting a restful spell. The Bloomington, Indiana-born artist grew up in the Midwest and brings the sweeping plains of the landscape into their expansive guitar-led sound, drawing you closer to something primordial, vast, and earthy.Accordingly bound up with a sense of adventure and wanderlust, much of Helfrich’s output has been shaped by the experience of travel (Helfrich is now based in Manchester, UK), from the small trips taken around her new UK home on Wanderers in the North (2020) and the pastel-hued snapshot of the Czech Republic on Age of Aristocracy (2019) to the daydreaming that propelled the 2020 lockdown release Wilder Paths. Her 2024 full-length Been Around Here Before used DIY tape loops, field recordings, and washes of ambient guitar to map out the Midwest through a collection of mellowed-out, sun-glazed postcards. Recorded with local musicians from the Indiana-born artist’s new home in Manchester, England—including vocalist Emily Mercer—the LP revisits US road trips and natural beauty spots to build a summer scrapbook of her past, helping her to process present-day anxieties and find a quiet stillness through music.
