Event information

For as long as anyone can remember, Soho has been the fluttering heart of London. Its storied pubs, shops, trattorias, gambling dens and nightclubs are every bit as alive as the millions of tourists, locals and cross-town visitors who crowd the streets all year round. People from all walks of life are made and unmade in Soho, and few knew it better than Frank Norman and Jeffrey Bernard, who collaborated on the 1966 book, “Soho Night & Day”, which quickly became a collectors’ item and was reissued last year. Writers and raconteurs, the pair haunted Soho’s establishments for much of their lives. While Bernard was renowned for his “Low Life” column in the “Spectator”, the book collected his photos of the Soho he loved, juxtaposed with insightful commentary by Norman, an acclaimed novelist in his own right.

Geraldine Norman, O.B.E. is the widow of the writer Frank Norman. As well as being an award-winning journalist for “The Times” and “The Independent”, she is the author of numerous books, including “The Hermitage: The Biography of a Great Museum”.

Joe Daniel is Frank Norman’s grandson. He’s also the driving force behind the beautifully produced 2024 reissue of “Soho Night & Day”.

Writer and musician Max Décharné is the author of ten books—his most recent being “Teddy Boys: Post-War Britain and the First Youth Revolution”. His other books include “Vulgar Tongues: An Alternative History of English Slang”
