Join City of London Symphonic Winds on an exciting voyage of discovery through British wind repertoire, as they play new music (including a world premiere) together with some hidden gems from the 19th and 20th centuries. Under the baton of musical director Alan Duguid, the group will be showcasing music by British composers, including pieces by Arthur Bliss (in the year marking 50 years since his death) and the pioneering Black British composer Samuel Taylor-Coleridge (following the recent 150th anniversary of his birth).
The programme will also feature Elizabeth Maconchy's 1965 masterpiece, Music for Wind and Brass; Morning Music, by Richard Rodney Bennett (1986); and Gary Carpenter's 'Flying God Suite' (1994). The entertaining 'Buffoonery' (Goddard) will feature the band's own Suzie Palmer on solo bassoon, and completing the programme will be 'Off Beat Overture', a recent piece by acclaimed composer and clarinettist Paul Harris, and 'Easter Songs', a new piece by one of the group's resident composers, Alastair Wheeler.
