Event information

Paul McGann came to prominence for portraying Percy Toplis in the television series The Monocled Mutineer (1986), before starring in the dark comedy Withnail and I (1987), which was a critical success and developed a cult following. McGann later became more widely known for portraying the eighth incarnation of the Doctor in the 1996 television film Doctor Who, and its audio drama continuations. He has since been seen in Luther, Holby City and Ripper Street and continues to work regularly on stage.

Charles Owen enjoys an extensive international career performing a wide-ranging repertoire to outstanding critical acclaim. He has appeared at many major venues across the world such as Carnegie Hall and the Moscow Conservatoire and has recorded piano music by Bach, Poulenc and Faure. Charles is a Professor of Piano at the Guildhall School and we are delighted to welcome him back following his visit with Simon Callow in 2022.

Join Paul and Charles for a magical concert featuring readings of a selection of poems from North interspersed with thematic solo piano music:
Debussy: Ballade
Janacek. ‘Goodnight’ from ‘On an overgrown path’
Ravel: Pavane pour une infante défunte
Cheryl Frances-Hoad: ‘Amethyst’ from ‘Stones of the Sky’ (2025)
