Event information

The Magic Lantern, the moniker of singer-songwriter and composer Jamie Doe, hosts a three night residency at London's Servant Jazz Quarters on 23, 24 and 25 November 2025. Conceived as a 'Festival of Feeling' the residency explores the unique ability of songs to help us make sense of the limitless depth of our shared human experience.

Songs help us to understand ourselves, to make sense of the momentous and the mundane, but above all to articulate our feelings - the ones we can name and the ones we can’t, the ones we’re proud of and the ones that scare us. The Magic Lantern’s ‘Festival of Feeling’ celebrates the songs that bring us together and their ability to tell the truth, however difficult.

The Magic Lantern have invited a range of incredible songwriters from London, Brazil, Scotland, Sweden and beyond to join them over three nights that will be equally joyous and devastating.

For this first night of the residency The Magic Lantern, performing with full band, will be joined by Jo Mango and James Józef.

More guests to be announced.

About Jo Mango & James Józef:

Jo Mango

Glasgow songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Jo Mango has quietly formed a part of a number of internationally notable musical moments over the past two decades. From joining David Byrne on stage at the Carnegie Hall to playing alongside Vashti Bunyan, Devendra Banhart, Vetiver, and Adem. She has collaborated on performances with musicians such as Devendra Banhart, Coco Rosie, Norman Blake (Teenage Fanclub), Roddy Woomble (Idlewild), William Tyler (Lambchop), Richmond Fontaine, and played on bills alongside artists as diverse as Bert Jansch, Donovan, Belle and Sebastian, Hot Chip, The Yeah Yeah Yeahs, The Silver Jews and Jenny Lewis. Mango is also a Doctor of Musicology, and along with David Scott (of the BMX Bandits and the Pearlfishers), she co-founded Scotland’s first degree in songwriting. The release of her 3rd solo album, after a long hiatus, is sure to herald a new era for the songwriter.

James Józef

Multi-instrumentalist, producer, and alternative-folk artist, James Józef weaves intimate, lyrically rich songs that explore vulnerability and introspection. Influenced by the likes of Joni Mitchell, Jeff Buckley, and Blake Mills, his sound is both timeless and contemporary, built on poetic songwriting and delicate arrangements. Recently attracting the attention of Sony Music Publishing and Decca, James is a name to watch for fans of emotionally resonant, genre-crossing folk.
