The Magic Lantern, the moniker of singer-songwriter and composer Jamie Doe, hosts a three night residency at London's Servant Jazz Quarters on 23, 24 and 25 November 2025. Conceived as a 'Festival of Feeling' the residency explores the unique ability of songs to help us make sense of the limitless depth of our shared human experience.
Songs help us to understand ourselves, to make sense of the momentous and the mundane, but above all to articulate our feelings - the ones we can name and the ones we can’t, the ones we’re proud of and the ones that scare us. The Magic Lantern’s ‘Festival of Feeling’ celebrates the songs that bring us together and their ability to tell the truth, however difficult.
The Magic Lantern have invited a range of incredible songwriters from London, Brazil, Scotland, Sweden and beyond to join them over three nights that will be equally joyous and devastating.
For this third and final night of the residency The Magic Lantern, will be performing with full band alongside a collaboration with vocal ensemble Corvus Consort. Support from Emilia Mårtensson, playing in duo with Matt Robinson and special guests.
Emilia Mårtensson and Matt Robinson are the collaborative project of award-winning Swedish vocalist Emilia Mårtensson and acclaimed UK pianist and composer Matt Robinson. Together, they expand on the traditional piano/vocal duo, weaving improvisation, extended techniques, and the subtle use of live electronics and synths into a sound that feels both intimate and expansive. Their debut duo album, Where You Might Hide (2026), moves fluidly between original compositions, Swedish folk melodies, deconstructed jazz standards, and art-pop landscapes. Each piece offers a new perspective — sometimes fragile and spacious, sometimes rich with texture and motion — yet always connected by a sense of freedom and discovery.
Emilia Mårtensson is an award-winning vocalist and composer from southern Sweden, now based in Berlin. Known for her gently expressive tone and emotionally rich storytelling, she has become one of the most distinctive voices on the UK jazz scene. Named “the new face of British jazz” by The Observer and winner of Best Vocalist at the 2016 Parliamentary Jazz Awards, Emilia has appeared at leading international festivals including Rochester Jazz Festival (NY), Umeå Jazz Festival, (SWE) and London Jazz Festival, (UK)
