A 50 minute tour and Q&A opportunity with the home owners of a retrofitted, 1900, Edwardian end-of-terrace house, including ...

• Period house character retained: bare wood floors, sash windows, coving, tiled hall, dado rail etc
• Compartmentalized house plan as do not need to heat the whole house all the time
• Draft reduction via internal porch, double doors to attic (& letter box!), interlined curtains,
• Underfloor insulation for exposed wood floors with Thermafleece Cosywool
• All internal faces of external walls insulated with 10mm ‘Sempatap’ internal wall insulation
• Attic roof insulation with Kingspan and 10mm ‘Sempatap’. Plus ‘attic above the attic’
• Refurbished original sash windows with ‘Magneglaze’ secondary glazing on all windows
• 2 x 2m2 solar panels for hot water with large well insulated tank (‘AOS Solar’)
• 8 x 265W Solar PV panels on South & West elevations (‘Ecodomus’) plus 4 x 465W PV panels on slightly North facing top roof (Good Energy)
• 8kWh battery (Sigenergy)
• Air Source Heat Pump (Mitsubishi Zubadan R32) works perfectly without the need to upgrade pipes and radiators
• Integration of heat pump with 14 PV panels, solar hot water system and battery
• Two wood burning stove (‘Clearview Vision’ in living room can heat whole house)
• Continuous running low energy fan in bathroom (‘Vent Axia – Lo Carbon’)
• Low energy lighting throughout
• Water saving devices: siphon bath water recycling, low flow washers in most taps
• Living roofs on ‘all’ flat surfaces from recycled carpet (‘Green Roof Options’)
• Living wall, wildlife meadow, bees, vineyard and pond

“We have carried out the energy saving refit of our house for several reasons including comfort (a warm house is more comfortable than a cold house) plus doing the right thing in terms of reducing our carbon emissions. The energy efficiency renovation process has also been very interesting and satisfying. Helping others to reduce their emissions in a cost effective manner, including avoiding some of the blind alleys we went down, is also very rewarding.” Homeowners
