Philippa Mo: Suite Fantasia Caprice

In this collection of pieces, Philippa delivers the Partita in D minor by Bach, one of the most deeply contemplative of pieces with the astonishingly complex final movement the Chaconne, a dance over a ground bass with 64 variations. Missy Mazzoli is a groundbreaking composer from New York who responds to the opening of the Chaconne in her mesmerising piece Dissolve, O my Heart. Telemann casts an elegant Baroque path through his solo fantasias and is answered by the passionate and fiery works by Astor Piazzolla who developed the tango nuevo.

Philippa is enjoying exploring the wonderful cello suites arranged for violin and shares the fourth suite tonight.

BIOGRAPHY
Philippa studied at the Royal Academy of Music and the Central Conservatory of
Music, Beijing and performs extensively as a soloist worldwide. Solo tours have
taken her to Australia, Brazil, China, Turkey Mongolian and Kazakhstan. She is a
member of UPROAR Wales New Music Ensemble.

Concerto appearances include Piazzolla’s Four Seasons, Leeds, McCabe's Les
Martinets Noirs, Sweden, Dvorak Concerto, Exeter Cathedral and Colin Riley’s
Stream-Shine, Ely Cathedral. Philippa has released critically acclaimed recordings
for NMC, Dutton and Nimbus labels. Awarded Associate of the Royal Academy of
Music, she won the Future Classic Women Awards 2020.
She is represented by Agrippina Concert Agency in Germany and is Artistic Director
of the Richmond Chamber Orchestra in Yorkshire. This year projects have included the Lost Music of Auschwitz and a south coast tour Sound Out! with Londn Sinfonietta.
She returns to perform in Germany with esteemed pianist Albert Lau this autumn.
