Event information

Best known to the general public, perhaps, for the devastating wit of her reviews, journalism and conversation, Dorothy Parker was also a highly successful poet, screenwriter and short story writer. Shedding a pitiless light particularly on relationships between men and women, her short stories are both funny and tragic. As writers we'll be analysing in particular her talent for scene-setting and character-revealing dialogue.

Reading (or re-reading) the stories is desirable but not essential. You can find those we'll be discussing - 'Wonderful Old Gentleman', 'Here We Are', 'Too Bad' and 'Mr Durant' - online here:

(If you want to buy, we recommend The Collected Dorothy Parker from Penguin.)
