Event information

Hailing from Faversham in Kent, folk-rock band Green Diesel first emerged in 2009 and take their inspiration from the depths of English folk lore and legend and the classic folk rock sound of their predecessors Fairport Convention, Steeleye Span and The Albion Band. Blending violin, mandolin, dulcimer and accordion with electric guitars and drums, Green Diesel’s sound is born from a love of traditional English music and a desire to bring it to a modern audience.

Performing original compositions, steeped in folklore, alongside inventive reworkings of traditional songs and tunes the band have won praise from critics and fans alike for the quality of their songwriting and musicianship. They have built up a reputation as a fearsome live act, their energy and musicianship grab the audience by the scruff of the neck and leaves them wanting more.

The band’s latest album, ‘Onward The Sun’, released earlier this year, features tales of witchcraft, moon worship and sorcery gone awry, and is without doubt their best offering to date. Showcasing Green Diesel’s masterful distillation of folk, rock and psychedelic influences, together with their usual exemplary musicianship and trademark vocals, the album reflects a band that have matured into a tight, instinctive and exciting unit born out of playing together a great deal. The album has picked up a slew of enthusiastic reviews and has become their best-selling release.

Marrying romantic lyricism of verses to rousing, spirit-raising refrains, Green Diesel really are a band at the top of their game.

“A band with roots deep in the native soil, playing their own electric interpretations of ancient English music and crafting originals that fit seamlessly alongside the traditional tracks.” ~ Shindig!

“More Fairport than Fairport and more Steeleye than Steeleye “ ~ Darren Johnson (Bright Young Folk)
