Event information

As part of Muswell Hill Sustainability Group's GREEN OPEN HOMES season ...

A 1.5 hour evening of three talks followed by an open Q&A and refreshments, offering a unique opportunity to get the full picture on installing renewables, from industry evangelist and experts to hands-on installer to a local installations customer.

THE TALKS ...

1) Bean Beanland is a founding member of the Heat Pump Federation; and formerly one half (the other being Evan Davies) of the Happy Heat Pump podcast.

He will be walking you through the bigger picture for Heat Pumps and other electrification options, including:
- Why we should be transitioning and why renewables matter.
- The benefits of moving from gas boiler to heat pumps.
- What government policy and funding support looks like.
- Future trends and developments.

2) Stephanie Chan, is a renewables installer, formerly with Next Step Heating, and brings hands-on advice, including:
- The key stages of every installation (design, installation, handover).
- The practicalities, including costs, timescales, pre-requirements and allowed locations.
- How to best time when to get renewables installed.
- How to get the most of your system once installed.

3) Jeremy Gibb is a core member of MHSG and a recent Air Source Heat Pump customer - the culmination of many years of retrofitting his 1940's Muswell Hill home on Leaside Avenue, which also features in our Green Open Homes tours (bookable on this site at: https://wegottickets.com/MuswellHillSustainabilityGroup).

He will offer his personal experience of the installation, the performance, the costs and what to expect when installing renewables on your home.

THE PANEL ...

BEAN BEANLAND ...
Director for Growth & External Affairs at the Heat Pump Federation (HPF), Bean has over 15-years’ experience, including eight years with an installation contractor, in energy and carbon mitigation strategy and in conceptual technology selection, procurement and the installation of mechanical services and renewable technologies.

He has overseen the technology positioning, specification and delivery of a variety of heat pump systems, many of which supply heat and potable hot water to Listed and period buildings, to schools, rural estates and commercial buildings.

Since 2016, Bean has concentrated on sector representation, the advancement of the industry, supporting the development of government electrification policy, VAT & PDR revision, future funding & affordability, consumer protection, installer training and standards, and preparation of the future workforce.

He is responsible for Federation policy lobbying activities, for external engagement (including all media activity), for growth in membership and for the HPF’s outreach programme, providing CPD-style engagement with community groups and construction professionals.

STEPHANIE CHAN ...
Stephanie's background is in data analysis of renewable energy. But, after finding it very difficult to find an installer willing to work on her own Victorian home, wanted to try and change this and transitioned to working on real-world installations two years ago, with Next Step Heating.

JEREMY GIBB ...
Jeremy has worked in law and psychotherapy. He retired a few years ago from a 20 year career as a tribunal judge in the field of immigration, asylum and human rights law. He has had a long interest in ecology and the environment. In the last few years a lot of his time has been taken up with making his house better insulated and more energy efficient, which recently culminated in the removal of the gas boiler and the arrival of a heat pump.

LIVESTREAMS AND CATCH-UPS ...

All talks will also be live-streamed for those that can't attend, and archived on the Muswell Hill Sustainability Group You Tube channel after the event.
