Two intriguing theatre pieces originally created and performed by acclaimed American playwright and actor Sam Shepard and Living and Open Theatre actor Joseph Chaikin.
Tongues is a piece about voices. Voices travelling. Voices becoming other voices. Voices from the living and the dead. Working voices. Hypnotised voices. All the while in conversation with sounds.
Savage/Love is a series of short poems of real and imagined moments in the spell of love, both in first flush and subsequent changes in feelings. A dance of emotions, funny and beguiling.
Tongues:
Clifford Bader, percussion
Phil Clark, voices

A previous performance at Crediton Arts Centre prompted these reactions:
“A beautifully expressive and controlled performance. Brilliant. The interplay of words, movement and percussion worked so well.”
“Tongues was an outstanding performance with superb timing between actor Phil Clark and percussionist Clifford Bader. I loved the poetic quality of both pieces.”
“A mesmerising performance which totally captivated me.”
“It is always exciting to see theatre of such high quality anywhere, especially in a small local venue such as Crediton Arts Centre. My first comment to the cast after the show was that I couldn’t imagine the pieces being performed any better and that their work surely deserves a greater airing. I thoroughly recommend it to anyone who appreciates theatre that is both provocative and entertaining.”
“This is just to tell you how impressed we were by these plays you and your colleagues performed on Sunday. Your relationship with them makes a magical story.”
