Brian Wright was born to a traveling world. Originally from East Texas, he moved around with his parents in a Volkswagen van: Wyoming, Utah, Alaska and other destinations. His father, a Vietnam veteran, was a chaser of dreams. The Wrights eventually returned to Lorena, Texas, outside of Waco. His mother became a nurse who broke horses, while his father broke the law robbing banks and went to prison. All the while, Brian Wright went for music. He started as a drummer, he says, "but it turns out I was a better guitar player. After a stint in Austin, a coin flip determined that Brian Wright & the Waco Tragedies would move to Los Angeles. I did solo gigs and played rock & roll. I saw these country-type bands but I wasn't impressed. It was like the hair metal bands had decid!
ed to play country. Then I started writing some country-type songs, maybe because I missed home. I really didn't know how much that music meant to me until I got to California. I liked what my music was, and liked the sound of the band. It surprised me a bit. Now I know what I want to do." Brian Wright has toured as part of the Hotel Cafe and collaborated with Tom McRae, Joe Purdy and Greg Laswell.
