A joyful concert of music for the Festive Season

HOLYMOORSIDE CHORAL SOCIETY began in 1941 as a village choir. The tradition of singing a wide variety of music at local events and raising money for charity was established then and has continued to the present day. Today we are a friendly choir of 60 members who enjoy meeting together on Thursday evenings for rehearsals in Holymoorside, 3 miles SW of Chesterfield in Derbyshire. Our Musical Director, Andrew Marples is a very busy, accomplished musician with many local commitments. He is supported by excellent accompanist Christ Flint. We perform three main concerts each year, and have a wide repertoire, including music from traditional to modern classics, from sacred and oratorio pieces to folk and show songs.

DARLEY DALE BAND originally formed in 1880 and has had its ups and downs – closing in the 1960’s, reforming in 1984 and reviving again in the 2010s. At almost full strength, the band members enjoy playing together to a high standard, with experienced players supporting those who have more recently rediscovered the pleasure of music making. Enjoying major awards at the Denby Pottery Festival in 2019, more recent performances have brought 1st prizes and best instrumental awards at the North East Midlands Brass Band events in 2022, 2023 and again in 2024 under Musical Director Richard Adams, who has a strong heritage in Derbyshire. He started playing at Huthwaite Prize Band becoming a top trumpeter performing around the Globe, including English Symphony Orchestra, D’Oyle Carte, Melachrino Strings, and Royal Shakespeare Company. His vast talent and knowledge have brought significant value to the band.
