Event information

We've loved Dafydd's Roberts' music since the 1990s when he created cosmic alchemy as Alphane Moon, Our Glassie Azoth and Blodeuedd. Carausias Arise! is the latest sonic ritual from Ceredigion-based obscurant Dafydd Roberts, sometimes known for his eerie alchemical-drone and hermetic sound experiments. Gnawing at the margins of UK underground since the early ’90s with releases via Camera Obscura, Oggum, Earworm, Ochre Records, Plate Lunch and his own Listen to the Voice of Fire imprint.

“A fabulous delirium of competing frequencies.” – Biba Kopf, The Wire “Weird and wonderful alchemy.” – Tom Ridge, The Wire “An astonishing meditation of noise… amazed and terrified by the unstoppable power he has unleashed.” – Ed Pinsent, The Sound Projector

Carausias Arise! is a live sonic ritual shaped by electronic noise, abstracted texture, and hymnic invocation, drawing on Anglo-Welsh poetry and 17th-century alchemical writings. It grows out of the folk-noise haze of Flying Saucer Attack, echoing Coil’s ritual electronics and the spectral vocal drift of Cucina Povera.

Duncan Chapman is a composer and sound artist whose solo performances explore sound as a place to be. Working with field recordings, live electronics, and slowly evolving drones, he creates immersive sonic environments that invite deep listening and a sense of stillness within shifting acoustic spaces.
His self-released work includes collaborations with Comb Filter and Humbox, and Three, a duo with percussionist Simon Limbrick. Duncan also performs regularly with Carnatic singer Supriya Nagarajan, creating contemplative performances and recordings that have appeared at festivals and venues across the UK and internationally. His music is released on Silent, Takuroku, and Mushinoise, and a recent piece derived from beehive recordings features on the compilation Re:Natura 05 – Crescere
