It's 10 years since David Bowie left us to return to his home planet and we want to celebrate, not imitate, his artistic genius. We will not just be spinning Bowie songs nor have any dodgy Bowie wig tribute acts! We are talking inspired interpretations, a live band and a chance for you to sing your favourite Bowie song with host Heidi Heelz who will be bringing their Bowieoke to the Trades Hall.
Featuring:
Live music from THE WILD-EYED BOYS
Consisting of the wonderful Jemma Freeman and the Cosmic Somethings plus Martin McCarrick (Siouxsie & The Banshees, Therapy).
Jemma Freeman and The Cosmic Somethings:
Queer, Neurodivergent, Alt Rock trip Jemma Freeman and The Cosmic Something emerge like joyous sci-fi warriors, and demonstrate solidarity with anyone that’s ever identified feeling off kilter with the rest of the universe and needed an equally wonky soundtrack to back it.
Guest Singers:
Elian Lion:
Elian Lion is a super talented songwriter and guitarist. Previously he wowed the audience at the Trades at the Stoned On Love festival. Elian will be giving us some beautiful acoustic Bowie songs.
Simon Lawrence:
Simon Lawrence has loved Bowie since he watched Labyrinth as a kid in the 80s. Simon has performed many Bowie songs over the years, but there's one song very dear to him that he's never sung live, and he'll be performing it specially for this event!
Benjamin Louche:
Benjamin Louche is an award-winning host and co-producer of The Double R Club, a trustee of Cabaret vs Cancer, and the host of the charity’s iconic Ashes to Ashes live shows. A David Bowie fan since a young age, he long ago gave up on having a favourite Bowie album (as there are WAY too many to choose from) and has instead settled on a conservative favourite 10! -Louche is also guilty of writing the infamous Bowie Cryptic crossword clues for the Ashes to Ashes shows.
Bowieoke:
Your turn to take to the mic.
Ever fancied yourself as a Thin White Duke, Diamond Dog or even a Laughing Gnome? Well Heidi Heelz has got ya!
Heidi begun their Bowieoke night in 2018 and has since hosted events in London, Bristol, and the Dublin Bowie Festival 2024. There's a plethora of big hits and deep cuts to choose from plus some related tunes from Iggy, Lou et al, plus Heidi will be on hand should you need any encouragement.
We will also be raising money for the remarkable Cabaret v Cancer, a small but mighty charity that makes real and palpable change to cancer sufferers and their loved ones.
