Career Highlights
The Adverts (1976–1979): Smith rose to fame during the first wave of British punk. The band's debut album, Crossing the Red Sea with the Adverts (1978), is considered a seminal classic of the era. Their hit "Gary Gilmore's Eyes" reached the UK Top 20.
1980s Projects: After The Adverts split, he formed TV Smith's Explorers, achieving a minor hit with "Tomahawk Cruise" (1980). He later fronted the band Cheap from 1986 to 1991.
Solo Career: Since the early 1990s, he has been a prolific solo artist, known for energetic acoustic performances and social commentary. He frequently collaborates with German punk veterans Die Toten Hosen.
