Event information

Back in 1957 Tony and Peter Oakman formed the Spacemen Skiffle Group which included guitarist Joe Brown.
In 1959 Joe Brown was spotted by TV producer Jack Good which led to TV's ‘Boy Meets Girl!’ series. They were then signed up by Decca Records and the first single ‘Dark Town Strutters Ball’ gave birth to ‘Joe Brown & The Bruvvers’
Numerous TV appearances and touring throughout the UK followed.
In 1962 Pete Oakman and fellow Bruvver, Johnny Beveridge, wrote the No 1 hit
‘A Picture of You', which remains to this day a firm favourite in the history of UK pop music.
In 1964 Pete Oakman began a six-year separation from Joe Brown, when he played bass for Lonnie Donegan. In 1972 Pete re-joined Joe Brown with a new band ‘Browns Home Brew’,
During the 1970s Pete joined John Clare and formed the band ‘Harley Quine’ from which came their top 20 single hit ‘New Orleans’

The band’s keyboard player, Bill Livsey, went on to work with Cliff Richard, and Pete's son Steve Oakman joined the band on keyboard.

The Bruvvers drummer Chris Hunt has become a legend in his own right, having worked with Thunderclap Newman, Leo Sayer, Cat Stevens, Van Morrison, and Lonnie Donegan. And in recent years Chris has worked with Dana Gillespie, and is the drummer for the Eel Pie All Stars.
John Clare on lead guitar formed The Free Electric Band. John has toured with with many artiste including Lou Christie, Brenda Lee, Chris Montez, Shangri las, Little Eva, Jimmy Jones, Jet Harris. Mike Berry, and has played with Sir Paul McCartney.

Following the sad passing of Pete Oakman 'The Bruvvers' are now led by his son Steve Oakman (currently with 'Vanity Fare' and Paul Young’s band, 'Los Pacaminos')
We welcome back 'The Bruvvers' to Patchworks.

This special gig will be a nostalgic look back at one of the most popular UK bands to emerge from the 1960s, and a tribute to the band’s founder, the late Pete Oakman.
