Arcadia
Arcadia is a seductive piece of work. Approach it as you might a rich and strange piece of music. A rhapsody montage of archive clips, flickering evocations of bucolic calm, bizarre eccentricity and what looks like real-life folk horror paganism, coming at you with Pathe newsreel voices. A fever dream of the British countryside. With special guests Jane and Chris Sanders, leading lights in local traditional music and song, connecting to the customs and traditions revealed in the film.

Event information
From the earliest days of movie-making to the present day, through rare and unseen footage, we see the changing relationship the British have with their land - from images of local celebrations and festivals to agricultural practices through the seasons.
Unique footage shows Britain's evolving connection to its land, capturing village life and lost crafts and festivals, farming, village traditions and forgotten crafts from cinema's beginnings to today.
Arcadia collects together imaginatively curated archive footage of the traditional life and customs and festivals of rural Britain, before mechanisation and the contemporary media reduced it to a memory of quaintness.
Our guests for this screening are singers and musicians Jane & Chris Sanders, from Tansor. They're best known for bringing traditional song and dance to life in our local community through folk music performances, tea dances, pub sessions, ceilidhs and more. Expect a little music, as well as thoughtful comment on the customs revealed in Arcadia in which traditional music is rooted.
