Event information

Alan Reed is a man in a hurry.
Despite having been diagnosed with Parkinson’s in late March 2025, he’s determined to get ‘out there’ as much as possible - until he can’t.
To that end he’s bringing his band, The Daughters of Expediency, to a venue near you.
He has an album to promote - ‘Grey Sky Thinking’.
In a nod to Pallas - the band he’s now rejoined - they intend to play at least 45 % of tracks by them. Though they will make them their own.
Alan also has both ‘The Messenger’ and ‘Elemental’ (due some time before Christmas ) to promote, as well as a boxed set of the Inside Out Years.

Alan’s history is a history of Brit Prog itself. First coming to prominence with Glasgow’s own Abel Ganz (recording Gratuitous Flash with them) before joining Pallas in mid 84.
He recorded The Kightmoves EP (featuring his first work with the band - the epic Sanctuary), and The Wedge LP for EMI. A punishing gig schedule saw Pallas become one of the tightest acts imaginable, with a legendary status to match.
A period in the wilderness followed, but a CD re-release of the album saw the band from Aberdeen pick up for some ‘unfinished business’. This culminated in another purple patch of releases via Inside Out. Notably Beat The Drum, The Cross and The Crucible, and The Dreams of Men.
The final recorded work of the band was Moment to Moment, which covered the band’s earliest years (as well as the then present) at a gig in Poland.

Alan was dropped from the band in 2010, and after considering his future with or without music, decided to dip his toe in the water.
The result was the Dancing With Ghosts EP , that saw him hook up with Mark Spencer (Twelfth Night/Galahad) and Jennifer Clark (Horse) who formed the nucleus of The Daughters of Expediency.
They were soon joined by Henry Rogers (Drums - Mostly Autumn), award-winning Tudor Davies (keys), and Daren Callow on lead guitar.
Gigs followed in support of solo albums First In A Field Of One, and Honey On The Razor’s Edge.
His third album, Grey Sky Thinking, will be available at the gigs. As will The Messenger and Elemental. The two Pallas albums he’s been on since rejoining them shortly before moving back to Scotland in 2022.

This marks a turning point for Alan and the band.

Having been diagnosed with Parkinson’s, this may be the last chance to see him, as he’s already lost the use of his right hand and doesn’t know whether he’ll be up to gigging in future.
To this end he’s taken on Neil Winton - who’ll play his parts on guitar. And Sunny, who’s all over the album with her distinctive backing vocals.
Rumour has it that Alan will be joined onstage at Veruno by two members of Pallas. They are planning a mini- set. This will be the final time they play together.

Support comes from HATS OFF GENTLEMEN IT’S ADEQUATE, who combine prog/alt/art-rock, with contemporary classical, minimalist, metal and electronic elements. They often explore scientific and science fiction themes. In 2025 they have released their critically acclaimed 8th album, 'The Uncertainty Principle'.
“Spiky neo-prog and art-rock. Never less than entertaining, passionate, humorous and committed” – Prog Magazine
