Beginning as an upper-class pursuit invented in the British Raj, snooker then filled the working men’s clubs of industrial Britain. Nearly ceasing to exist in the late 1950s, it revived to become a global sport.
Hendon captures the personal stories of snooker’s larger than life characters, from Alex Higgins and Jimmy White to Ronnie ‘the Rocket’ O’Sullivan, against a backdrop of seismic national and international social history. Packed with interviews with snooker’s big personalities - sharing the highs and lows, the personal tragedies and very public break-downs – Pots of Gold is a timely examination of one of this country’s most successful sporting exports.
David Hendon is a freelance snooker journalist, writer and broadcaster. He is a television commentator for Eurosport and ITV snooker coverage, and produces the weekly Snooker Scene podcast.
‘This is the undisputed number one of snooker books.’ Barry Hearn
