In this hands-on mobile workshop, children and young people (and their parents/carers) will be guided on a poetry scavenger hunt on Bude beach (or indoor alternative in the event of bad weather), collecting words, objects and images for their own creative writing, both temporary (in the sand) and on paper.
Nicola Garrard’s novels always start as poems, and during the workshop, Nicola will show how some of the scenes of her Carnegie Medal-nominated novel developed from poetry, showing the bonds between young people and place, industry and nature.
Participants will come away with a poem or flash fiction/prose poem and increased confidence in their ability to write creatively and originally, drawing from their live and observations of nature.
Meet at Bude Library. Bring footwear/clothes for the beach.
