Event Information

This evening you get three fantastic speakers for the price of one, in a
celebration of Oxford's rich cinema heritage. First up, Michael
Bicarregui, of the creative arts charity Film Oxford, will tell us how
we can get involved in a major new project, "Lights, Camera, Oxford!",
to preserve and share our city's moving image heritage. Next, local
historian Liz Woolley will reveal the fascinating history of early
cinema in Oxford, and of the Ultimate Picture Palace (UPP), one of the
oldest 'electric theatres' in the country. Wrapping up, Micaela
Tuckwell, Chief Executive of the UPP, will give us the latest on the
campaign to secure the future of this East Oxford jewel, currently under
threat from its landlord, Oriel College. Come along to be informed,
entertained, shocked and inspired.
