Join us for Friday Night Jazz at the Atrium Bar & Restaurant, President Hotel, Russell Square. On 13 March we’re delighted to welcome David Bitelli, one of the UK’s most respected saxophonists and clarinettists, whose sound has been part of the British jazz landscape for more than forty years. Known especially for his rich baritone sax tone and expressive, melodic improvising, David brings a depth of experience and a relaxed authority to the bandstand.

Over the years he has worked with an impressive range of artists and groups including Loose Tubes, Working Week, Joe Jackson, Dana Gillespie, Mike Westbrook, Airto Moreira, Dudu Pukwana, Terry Callier, Kenny Wheeler, Gunther Schuller, Terry Riley, Greg Foat and the Yiddish Twist Orchestra. Whether in a big band setting or a small, intimate line-up, his playing is thoughtful, inventive and full of character.

For this performance he’ll be joined by a superb rhythm section: Eric Ford on drums, Soner Ersen on piano and Andy Cleyndert on bass. Together they promise an evening of swinging standards, lyrical moments and plenty of spontaneous interplay — the kind of live jazz that feels fresh and alive.
