The story of coal mining and coal mining society in Britain, told in narration and song, from the beginning of the Industrial Revolution through to the end of deep mining in 2015. Child labour, disasters, safety improvements, wartime experiences, industrial disputes and social changes, are all covered in this powerful and moving performance, illustrating how coal mining affected the development of the whole country, whether directly involved in mining or not. The performance inevitably stirs the memories of many people of their family history, whether mining families or not.
For this performance, Alan and John will be joined by Dodworth Colliery Band, who will be playing before the start, and during the interval. The show is considered suitable for children above 12 years of age, when accompanied by an adult.
