Event information

Irish Mancunian presents a double-header event::

Presentation: IRISH BLOOD MANCUNIAN HEART:
We are launching our new publication – Irish Blood Mancunian Heart – which profiles 36 Irish Mancunians. The presentation will focus on their stories as people born and raised in Manchester with a significant sense of Irish identity.
The subjects range from the nineteenth century to the sons and daughters of the large wave of Irish emigrants who came to the city in the 1950s and 1960s.
We will see at key events in Irish history, Irish Mancunians were there –Mary Ann Hutton in the Gaelic revival; Gilbert Lynch at the Easter Rising; Sean Morgan in the War of Independence; and John Dulanty at the founding of the Irish Free State.
We will see that Irish Mancunians have been central to the preservation and development of Irish culture in our city and at the forefront of progressive developments for working people and the rights of women.
We will celebrate the immense cultural contributions of Irish Mancunians to the city and the world: Aherne, Boyle, Coogan, Delaney, Eagleton, Forrester, Friel, Gallagher, Kay, Morrissey and Stuart – with two of the most influential bands since the 1960s, The Smiths and Oasis, made up entirely of Irish Mancunians.
