The ever-popular Sommerville Sessions returns to Mu Mu’s, Week Street, Maidstone on Wednesday 8th April. Hosted by the Award-winning Florence Sommerville, one of the UK’s most compelling new voices in country music, this show will bring the cool Nashville vibe of the iconic Bluebird Café (as featured in the NASHVILLE TV Series) to Maidstone. Joining Florence will be Irish singer-songwriter, Cora McEldowney and Americana-folk duo Briggs & Stark for an entertaining evening of great songs, friendly banter, laugh-out-loud comedy, the emotional stories behind the songs and amazing vocalising.
Cora combines her influences from Irish trad, pop music and spiritual instruments; to create music with heartfelt lyrics in both English and Irish Gaelic, and healing melodies. Growing up in Derry, Ireland, she began her journey representing her home club, Watty Grahams, in the Scór na nOg, an Irish culture competition, then moved to London at 18, where she expanded her musical influence and inspiration. She has performed at the O2 Shepherd's Bush and previously sold out Notting Hill Arts Club for the release of her debut single No Easy Road.
Briggs & Stark are a rising Americana–folk duo whose buttery harmonies, wholesome storytelling, and signature tickle of flute have quickly made them one of the UK’s most exciting new acts. Both halves of the duo formerly created music as part of separate projects, and now Briggs’ knack for catchy Americana hooks and Stark’s indie-folk tales of human nature and heartbreak combine to form a sound that is heartfelt, contemporary, and deeply relatable. On stage, they expand this further with rich layers of vocals, flute, guitars, stomp box, and tambourine, creating a live set with far more depth than you’d expect from just two people.
