A musical journey inspired by the legend of the Merchant Royal
The Merchant Royal sank on September 23, 1641 off the coast of Cornwall,
near Land’s End, during a storm while en route to Antwerp. It was carrying a
vast treasure of gold, silver, and precious goods, making it one of the most
valuable and famous shipwrecks in history. Though the ship was never found,
its anchor surfaced in recent years which reignited an excitement for this
legend.
Aurum follows a diver’s imagined quest to discover and recover the ship
from the depths. In this musical journey, the diver discovers the long-lost ship
and brings it triumphantly back to shore. But in reality, the Merchant Royal still
lies hidden somewhere in the deep, its billions in gold waiting silently to be
found.
