Join us for a special evening as Nostromo celebrate the release of their debut single 'Ages of the World'. Hosted at Kentish-Town's hidden-gem Map Studio Café, the evening will see Nostromo perform their full catalogue across a two-part set with an intermission, alongside support from Ottoman Classical duo Yeden.
NOSTROMO
Led by singer-songwriter and guitarist Livan Garcia-Duquesne, the five-piece blends the cosmic spirit of Alice Coltrane with the raw force of King Crimson, while also drawing on world music from Chick Corea to Zakir Hussain. The repertoire spans elaborate, solo-driven epics and improvisations to plodding meditations where baroque tones meet jazz fusion guitar runs. The mood can shift from delicate and introspective to fiery and apocalyptic, carrying a menacing spiritual gravity.
YEDEN
London-based oud and violin duo focusing on Ottoman classical repertoire as well as folk music of the surrounding region. They mainly perform 18-20th century pieces, composed by artists from a myriad of cultures and ethnicities including Turkish, Armenian, Greek etc. These classical compositions were either composed for the Ottoman palace or as part of Sufi religious ceremonies. Characterised by intricate modal melodies and long rhythmic cycles, they often create a meditative and entrancing atmosphere. Yeden also perform contemporary compositions written in these classical forms, and explore how its sound has evolved through the centuries.
