Rotation’s monthly vinyl dance party in the fabulous Nut Bar with Mick Hood, Karl Morgan and Steve Laming sees them joined by a true ‘original soulboy’ Liam Tuke.
Born 1955 in Shepherds Bush West London Liam became a vinyl record collector from around the age of 14/15 playing records at house parties primarily reggae , Tamla , Soul and Funk which has become a hobby and passion of his to this day some 50 odd years later.
He started going to all the London ‘underground’ funk n reggae clubs 7 nights a week around 1970 that played mostly import Jamaican and US black music imports where you had to be in the know to go where dancing was highly competitive back then
Hence the Original Soulboy Sessions title on Portobello Radio. These can be listened back as podcasts on Mixcloud Tukemeister | Mixcloud
His motto has always been just put the needle on the record read the dancefloor reaction and off we go taking the dancers on a musical journey and making memories which has stood the test of time for him. Liam has DJ’d in many bars n nightclubs and private parties mainly in London and the suburbs and still regularly playing out at vinyl only gigs for likeminded people most notably with Laurence Govier and Nick Power at London’s coolest music boozer the White Bear in Farringdon. More locally Liam is a regular spinner at the Groove nights at the Dockyard Club.
