Pianist Kirk Lightsey defines himself as ‘Detroit mainstream with a Bud Powell awareness, an Art Tatum styling (and) a bebop feel.’ Following many productive associations in the 60s his status as an international jazz pianist was secured in 1979 when he joined Dexter Gordon’s group.
