Fana is the collaboration between Iwan Kushka and Asha McCarthy. Formed in 2009, it features the meeting of the Zimbabwean Thumb-Piano (mbira) and the Cello. This unique blend is the band’s signature sound, but other instruments used include guitar, oud (Arabic lute), Kora (African Harp-lute), ukelele, Indian harmonium, and world percussion. Into these varied textures, Fana weave poetry, story and song. Original material is interspersed with arrangements of traditional songs from around the world.
