Steve Skaith was the singer and co-writer of the band Latin Quarter, best known in the UK for the 80s hit single - Radio Africa and their collaboration with the Zimbabwean group, The Bhundu Boys. They had big hits in continental Europe with New Millionaires, America For Beginners, No Rope, As Long As Time and others.
In 1999 following the band's break up Steve Skaith went to live in Mexico where he formed the Steve Skaith Band.
The following three album releases mixed British folk rock with Latin and even African sound and rhythms; they played regularly in Mexico as well as touring England and Germany.
Since returning to the UK in 2007, Steve Skaith has been playing with British musicians and is now releasing 'Latin Quarter Revisited'. This has a radically new sound and the songs chosen for this project contain a freshness and relevance that no one would have imagined when they were first recorded.
The way that the Mike Jones lyrics have remained so fresh, is testament to his talent and the lyrics for Radio Africa have been re-written for the album.
Since supporting Robin Williamson (ex-Incredible String Band) and John Renbourne at the Bournemouth Folk Club The Steve Skaith Band has played numerous gigs including the Spandau Folk Festival in Berlin.
'Steve is joined by outstanding Bournemouth musicians Cath Burke...mandolin, clarinet, whistles. Ant Lewis...bass.'
