Megafaun is the band built by brothers Brad and Phil Cook and fellow Eau Claire, Wisconsin native Joe Westerlund from the ashes of DeYarmond Edison, the group they had formed with longtime friend Justin "Bon Iver" Vernon.
"Megafaun's roots are familiar; their bloom is uniquely theirs" - 4* ROLLING STONE
"Wonderful new music ... Megafaun are the most beardy, banjo-twanging, Steve Reich-enjoying band ever to include Bon iver among their number" - WORD
"Averse to predictability and sentimentality, the band is restless with established forms, yet instead of subverting blues and folk traditions, they upend them. Their ends are deconstructive, not destructive - Megafaun's songs change shape constantly-- a thrillingly mercurial quality that makes Gather, Form & Fly a headily absorbing, occasionally unsettling listen - ultimately there are no simple dichotomies in these songs, no easy distinctions between written and improvised, concrete and fluid, organic and synthetic. All the sounds and ideas emanate from the same sources and desires, and the prismatic contrasts between them illuminate this intriguing and heartfelt album" - 8.1 PITCHFORK
