Cash for honours, cash for questions, homes for votes, faked suicides, sleaze and expenses? Allegations of abuse of power, privilege and public money have dogged British governments for centuries, with no party on the political spectrum immune from scandal. In this talk Andrew Gilligan unveils over a century of alleged political corruption from Lloyd George’s Cash for Honours scandal to more recent accounts of dishonesty within British parliamentary life. He will discuss the more notable political scandals that have enveloped the British establishment in addition to exploring the current issues of political corruption today.
Andrew Gilligan is a British journalist who has worked for the BBC and the London Evening Standard, and is currently London Editor of the Daily Telegraph, Sunday Telegraph and Telegraph.co.uk. In 2008 he was awarded the British Press Awards’ Journalist of the Year.
