STILL CORNERS (headline)

With a deep love of film and sixties-sound production, STILL CORNERS write dreamy pop songs, full of swirling organs, big drums and lush vocals.

Building on a reputation for heart-stopping live performances mixing film projection with soaring soundscapes, Still Corners have upcoming releases on Fierce Panda, Great Pop Supplement, and a full length due later this year.

Still Corners are currently one of the most blogged bands on the interweb with the influential likes of Gorilla VS Bear raving about their skyscraping brilliance!

And the band recently (Friday 23rd July 2010) scooped the prestigious Guardian 'New band of the day' accolade! The highly-respected, veteran music journalist Paul Lester is clearly enamoured, here's his truly fantastic article!

"Endless Summer is the lead track on their MySpace, and you can hear why: it's got the drum sound from the Jesus and Mary Chain's Just Like Honey via the Ronettes' Be My Baby, a female vocal that for sheer soft, spectral breathiness makes Rachel from Slowdive sound like Janis Joplin, and a series of sighing distress signals – we can just about make out "summer ends soon" – over a hazy maze of organ and guitars. Don't Fall in Love is even better, a lovelorn shuffle that makes indie seem less like a joke and more like something you'd aspire to. "Don't you dare fall in love," warns the singer. We're in Julee Cruise / Twin Peaks territory: love as obsession, as madness. History of Love has the most basic structure – but that's OK; it only takes two chords, they just have to be the right ones. Wish joins the dots between forlorn indie-pop and folk. They've even got a track called French Kiss that gives teen romance a sci-fi makeover with eerie studio effects and dub space that suggest Joe Meek and Lee Perry loom as large in their pantheon as Kevin Shields. Still Corners are playing the Shoreditch 1234 festival this weekend – we may turn up just to check they exist, because it sounds like they're too good to be true.

The truth: If you were to assemble a bunch of tracks to give indie a good name, like a latterday C81 or C86, now would be the time to do it. And right at the start of that compilation – let's call it i2010 – should be Still Corners.

Most likely to: Do a David Lynch soundtrack.

Least likely to: Be on Coronation Street actress Julie Goodyear's iPod.

What to buy: Double-A-side Don't Fall in Love / Wish is released by Great Pop Supplement in August.

File next to: Galaxie 500, Field Mice, Slowdive, April Showers.

Here ends The Guardian 'New band of the day' article!

“Endless Summer is a gorgeous, swirling new dream-gaze gem from Still Corners." Gorilla VS Bear

"Like the smudged dreamy sound of Beach House or the 60s ghost-film soundtracks of Broadcast, all given a church-like makeover." – Breaking More Waves

THE SUNDAY REEDS (over from Oz / main support)

The SUNDAY REEDS are are a female-fronted noisepop band named after the Melbourne patron of the arts Sunday Reed (though Lou Reeed and Jim and William Reid are perhaps more pertinent!). Australia's finest purveyors of black clad, feedback frazzled fuzz are the love child of some kind of rock n' roll orgy between The Jesus And Mary Chain, Joy Division and The Velvet Underground. Imagine Nico fronting The Ramones! You really shouldn't need any more convincing than that. If scuzzy fuzzy rock n' roll is your thing, then The Sunday Reeds are a must see!

London-based CANDY PANIC ATTACK are a trio with brio. Gazing at the stars while wallowing in the gutter, CPA recall the punky girl group dramarama of Kenickie, the lo-fi, day-glo splatter-pop of Bis and Helen Love's Gabba Gabba Hey. The band boast a barrage of razor-sharp, super-fast, love 'n' lust ditties, exemplified by the absolutely fantastic Buzzcocks fizz & Jilted John wit of 'What's He Got?'!

CPA are:-
Mina Candy- Vocals, screaming, dubious songwriting, guitar
K* Starr- Not the 50's singer but Ace of Bass, reluctant backing vocals, songwriting & sweet-eating
Phillippa- Drums / witty banter

CPA all like:-
Sleater-Kinney, Le Tigre & good books

Mina Likes:
Magnetic Fields, Mclusky, Scout Niblett, Ramones, Clash, Gillian Welch, Patrick Wolf, Dirtblode, Priscillas & Bright Eyes

K* likes:
Kenickie, Be Your Own Pet, Bikini Kill, Savage Lucy, We Start Fires, Gravy Train!!!!, Elastica, Ladytron, Giant Drag, Das Wanderlust, Bearsuit, Helen’s Evil Twin, Vile Vile Creatures, Blood Red Shoes, Northern State, Blondie, Bis, Long Blondes, Betty & The Werewolves & loads more!
