The Addison Summer Concert sees the Oratorio and Chamber Choirs combine to perform a wide range of music, much of it inspired by words or music from different folk cultures or celebrating the joy of singing. A highlight of the evening is sure to be the world premiere of a new commission written by our own composer Zillah Myers, a member of both the Oratorio and Chamber Choirs.

The Oratorio Choir also sing three of Holst’s powerful and mysterious ‘Hymns from the Rig Veda’, plus excerpts from ‘In Windsor Forest’ (the Cantata that Vaughan Williams adapted from his opera ‘Sir John In Love’) that revel in the influence of English folksong, and a recent work by Cecilia McDowall, setting inspirational words by Marie Curie.

The Chamber Choir focus on popular Madrigals, dark and at times decidedly grizzly settings of folk-ballads by the great Hungarian composer Gyorgy Ligeti and an arrangement of one of the most famous arias in all Opera - ‘Dido’s Lament’ from ‘Dido & Aeneas’, arranged by Gavin Bryars.
