Event Information

PLEASE READ THE INFORMATION BELOW BEFORE BOOKING!

There is a choice of ticket types this year and also an option to donate an additional £5 to become a ‘Friend of Stony Lanterns 2024’. Please choose the correct ticket type for your lantern/s as they are non-transferable.

This year you can EITHER choose to make your lantern/s at the York House Workshops OR you can buy a Lantern Kit to make your lantern/s at home. All lantern-makers are welcome to join the procession on Saturday 30 November.

After School Sessions - there will be after school frame-making sessions for the families of children attending Russell Street School and SMSG North. Look out for a letter in your child's book bag with a unique link if you would like to book lanterns for a school session (you will also need to attend a workshop at York House to paper your lantern). NOTE – school tickets are not for a Lantern Kit.

York House Workshops – this allows you to attend any of the York House sessions which are drop-in between 10am and 4pm on Sat 16 & Sun 17 Nov and Sat 23 & Sun 24 Nov, you will be able to use a candle to light your lantern (you can bring your own battery fairy lights if you prefer and we will have some for sale), lanterns will be stored INSIDE at York House ready for collection from 3.15pm on Switch-On Day (Saturday 30 November). Bean in Stony will be running a café at the Saturday sessions only.

Lantern Kits – for those who prefer to make their lantern/s at home. Lantern Kits include full instructions and materials to make a basic lantern plus a bamboo cane and fixings so that you can bring your lantern along to the Lantern Procession on Saturday 30 November. You will need to add your own battery-powered fairy lights or a torch as candles are not allowed in made-at-home lanterns for safety reasons. You will need to collect your lantern kit/s at one of our designated collection sessions: 4pm til 5pm on Saturday 02 November (main hall), 6pm til 7pm on Wednesday 06 November (front car park) and 2pm til 4pm on Saturday 09 November (main hall). If you want to make a larger/more complicated lantern, you can purchase an additional bundle of withies (willow sticks) for a £2 donation.

Friends of Stony Lanterns – as the cost-of-living crisis continues, we realise that some families are struggling financially and may not be able to take part in the project. If you feel able to, please donate an additional £5.00 by adding the ‘Friends of Stony Lanterns 2024 – Optional Additional Donation’ ticket type to your basket before you head to the checkout. Donations will be used to provide free lantern making spaces to families in need and also help fund future Lantern Projects.

If you have any questions, please email stonylanterns@gmail.com and join our Facebook group Stony Stratford Lantern Project for the latest project news.
