Event Information

A dedicated space for South West and local writers . Happening on September 17th and 18th in the Budleigh Salterton Literary Festival Mini Marquee, hosted by Word Kitchen.

Word Kitchen has spent two years developing a network of writers through
events in Budleigh Salterton and Exeter and is delighted to partner with the festival to offer this special area exclusively for local writers, wherever
you are on your writing journey.


What is The Hub?

A warm and welcoming space, where writers can write, network and gather information and inspiration. Open daily from 10am with writing workshops;

Two daily panel discussions will feature industry professionals and experienced
authors. Southwest literary organisations including
Arvon Foundation, Literature Works, Exeter City of Literature. Raw Writing and the Exeter University Archive.

There’s a writers’ lounge, where pass holders can join the writers’ lunch circle, a library of local writers’ work,
A daily Happy Hour at 5pm with special festival guests, and a celebratory Open
Mic across the street at Brook Kitchen to mark the end of the two Writers’ Hub on Thursday 18th Sept.
Pass holders have free access to everything on offer within the Writers’ Hub Mini Marquee and free admission to the Open Mic. Festival tickets for the festival itself have to be booked via https://budlitfest.org.uk

Finding time and space to write: with Arvon Foundation, Raw Writing, Exeter University, and Word Kitchen.


What's The Point of Prizes? : where to submit,
and why prizes matter: with Faber debut author Fiona Williams, and The Exeter Novel Prize

Thursday 18th September

Getting Published (1) – an industry perspective, chaired by author Elizabeth
Delo with guest agents and publicists.

Getting Published (2) – the authors’ perspective, with Tom Cox and fellow
writers discussing lessons learned, alternative routes to getting published and the future for authors including the challenges of AI
