Event Information

Saturday 8 November 11-2pm
During the workshop, you will be introduced to the ancient art of Batik, using wax resist and fabric dyes. You will first learn the basic techniques and how to apply the wax with Jjantings, experiment with markmaking and fabric dye application. You will then make a larger individual piece to your own design, or by using templates available. This workshop is suitable for beginners and no previous knowledge of this technique is needed.

As we will be working with fabric dyes, please bring an apron or wear clothes which you do not mind getting paint on.

Louise is a textile artist based in Newcastle. She makes unique pieces, using traditional techniques including batik, patchwork and quilting, hooky and proggy matting, spinning, embroidery, felting making, upholstery, printing and community yarnbombing. Louise’s studio is open to the public during Ouseburn Open Studios on 29 and 30 November, at 36 Lime Street, Studio 2D.
