Brahms's Overture – woven irreverently from four German student drinking songs – will raise a smile! Then to Finland for Sibelius's fiercely patriotic Karelia Suite, also written for students and constructed from Karelian folk tunes in a protest against Russian aggression. Be transported to the warm haze of Provence with Bizet's passionate L'Arlesienne Suite, and to round things off, we have a selection of Tchaikovsky's much loved Nutcracker ballet dances.
