Learn to Crochet Class - Thursdays 10.00am-12pm (over 4 weeks).
This workshop is perfect for absolute beginners, or for those who can crochet a little but want to gain more confidence.
Focusing your mind and hands on repetitive stitches for a period of time takes you somewhere calm, much like meditation. When you crochet, you have to slow down as you become focused on what your hands are doing.
Open to all parents of pre-crawling babies, with a dedicated space for babies to kick around and relax, but we will stop and start according to the needs of everyone in the group. In these relaxed sessions, you'll not only learn a new skill but have time to chat and connect with other local mums at a similar phase of parenting to you.
This class will teach the basic stitches and techniques, practicing those stitches by making swatches. (These swatches can then be used to make a baby blanket). Skills and techniques are built upon each week at an unhurried pace, along with learning to read and follow basic patterns, visual charts, some abbreviations and terminology.
You will leave with the skills to continue your crochet journey with curiosity, and with a powerful tool for accessing a deep sense of calm. Crocheting during nap-times will become your new obsession!
What we will cover:
Week 1: Making a slip knot and making chains. Holding the hook and yarn to getting the tension. Double crochet stitch, making a swatch.
Week 2: Half treble and treble stitch, making stripes and changing colour.
Week 3: Shell stitch, basic pattern reading, and looking at simple baby accessories to start.
Week 4: A recap of the stitches and techniques covered. Starting a simple project, either a baby blanket using swatches from previous sessions, or a pixie hat.
*Price includes materials, (yarn and needles), and printed worksheets. There will also be lots of pattern books to browse and inspire you. Tea and coffee are also provided, but feel free to bring your own.
Where:
One of Six Cabin, Studio 12, 259a High Street, Walthamstow, E17 7BH
The One of Six studio is a bright and airy stand-alone studio located just a 3 minute walk from Walthamstow Central, opposite the Central Library. The entrance is on Cleveland Park Avenue, just along the side of Popeyes.
When:
Thursday March 5th, 12th, 19th & 26th from 10am – 12pm.
Doors open at 9.30am to give time to settle in with babies, get comfortable and grab a hot drink.
The class is 2 hours over four weeks for a total of 8 hours tuition. Places are limited to 6 to allow lots of support. Classes will run with a minimum of 4.
There is a toilet, sink and tea and coffee making facilities. The cabin does not have step-free access so if you'd like to bring a buggy it would need to be carried up a flight of stairs and some small steps leading to the cabin. Slings would be preferred but there is room for buggies if needed.
Include your phone number when booking in case I need to contact you. Emails sometimes end up in spam folders.
If you buzz no. 12, I will let you in. Walk up the stairs and go left at the top, through to the door at the end to the outside. Follow the path round to the right of the building until you see the cabin. There are small stairs along the way.
All bookings are non-refundable, except in the unlikely event that I need to cancel a session. If I cancel a session a full refund will be given. As a small, independent business and due to the limited number of spaces available, I cannot offer refunds, but will do my best to accommodate.
