Some things take time. Like a fine wine or a slow cooked meal, the maturity they gain from that time add depth, flavour and character. The same could be said for many forms of art, it takes time to explore the different corners of expression and fine tune your creative processes.
It’s easy to fall into routine and habits when it comes to making music and Treeboy & Arc had noticed themselves falling into that trap, writing songs that felt the same as before, like little progression had been made and the last thing they wanted was to follow up their debut with an album that was simply more of the same.
The decision to re-explore the tools already in front of them, to attempt to relearn songwriting and view it from a different angle is where ‘Goose’ was born, the band’s sophomore album and best offering to date. Conscious to explore the space between the instruments, the fat has been trimmed from these songs and what’s left is Treeboy & Arc in their most refined and mature form to date.
With influences and inspirations coming from more electronic and industrial artists, ‘Goose’ sees Treeboy & Arc focus more heavily on synthesisers, allowing driving and robust sequences to take centrestage. Each guitar part now feels considered and respectful of its counterpart, the band playing with intention instead of impatience. Lyrically and vocally, the album seeks solace in simplicity. Focusing on repeating themes and hooks rather than getting bogged down in complex wordplay.
Treeboy & Arc have been admired by many for their ferocious live performances which have seen them receive invites to tour alongside the likes of Bodega, Crows, Ditz, Cola and others, whilst also receiving praise from Clash, DIY, So Young, BBC 6 Music, BBC Radio 1 and many more.
“...It’s the sound of a band simultaneously treading new ground and never having looked more sure of themselves” - DIY
“...a leading light out of the north” - So Young
“[Treeboy & Arc] could be the next great art-punk outfit. Wildly infectious and brilliantly conceived” - The Revue
