Ribbon embroidery is a three-dimensional needlework technique that uses narrow, flexible ribbons instead of traditional thread to create textured, raised designs. It is frequently used to create floral motifs, and embellishments on clothing, quilts, and home decor.
In this workshop you will complete a small embroidered picture of anemones, irises and foxgloves. Vivien will give step by step instructions how to stitch anemones and demonstrate how to make additional flowers during the workshop. The finished picture will be suitable to mount in a small box frame. Any additional flowers could be mounted onto a greeting card.
A sewing kit be provided and will include everything you need to complete the picture (this includes a chenille needle). Please bring a small embroidery hoop, & small scissors.
Although she spent her working life in banking, Vivien has had a keen interest in textiles and embroidery from a very early age. She was a founding member of the Embroider’s Guild in Ponteland where she took on the role of treasurer. The Guild held monthly meetings and would host visiting speakers and demonstrations which informed aspects of their own work. When the Embroider’s Guild disbanded a group known as Ponteland Friendly Stitchers began meeting and arranging workshops on various embroidery techniques. Vivien has recently resigned from her post as Chairman of the group “to ensure the group stays fresh with different ideas being explored”.
