“One of the most renowned voices in tango in the world today” La Radio 2×4, Buenos Aires
In this special close-up and personal performance, these joyous ‘porteños’ from Buenos Aires will transport you on an evocative journey to the heart and soul of tango and Argentine music and poetry in its most genuine and artistic form.
Described as the best voice in Buenos Aires, Martin Alvarado infuses a carefully chosen repertoire, with warmth, colour, nuance and sensitivity. His charismatic and unforgettable performances have an obvious wow factor, whether singing with a full symphony orchestra, on a big festival stage, or with just his tenor voice and a guitar troubadour style in front of a handful of people. It is these qualities that have transcended language barriers and driven 11 album releases, awards, and an illustrious two-decade international career, with this tour being his 60th as a soloist. In recognition of his significance as a cultural ambassador for Argentina, the National Academy of Tango officially declared him as a Maestro in 2019.
Martin, together with renowned guitarist, arranger and composer Gerardo Villar, and his talented quartet of guitarists, Los Aguirre, present a rich musical banquet of flavours from Argentina and South America, blending the sound of old Buenos Aires with a 21st Century edge. Expect to hear songs from their new album, Llevo el Sur, including pieces by tango legend Astor Piazzolla and other major protagonists of the genre, such as Carlos Gardel, plus Argentinian folkloric styles and their own compositions.
"Indisputably one of the world's finest vocalists" DJ Ritu MBE, Resonance FM, London
"The world needs to experience this extreme form of aural pleasure… totally mesmerising, a tango epiphany." Max Reinhardt, BBC Radio
"Completely beguiling tenor" Mary Ann Kennedy, BBC Radio 3
"The best voice in Buenos Aires" the late Hector de Rosas, former singer with Astor Piazzolla
