Event information

Take a wild ride across Dartmoor with storyteller Sara Hurley. You will meet witch-hares and whisht-hounds, pixies, giants and Ashburton’s very own river sprite from this land of rugged rock and oak-sided valleys that is alive with folk tales. Discover the local stories behind familiar local places and enjoy some fabulous Dartmoor legends told by a well-loved Dartmoor based storyteller who will enchant you with her words.

“Love that woman! She has children and adults enthralled, with a gift for making it look easy.”
audience member

“Her stories totally captured everyone’s imaginations and they were all hooked until the very end!” Director, Woodovis Park

Suitable for ages 6 – 106.

Sara Hurley has lived on Dartmoor for many years and, like so many of us, has been drawn to its folk tales, history and nature. She has been at the heart of many arts, school and community projects in celebration of Dartmoor, including Chasing Crockern – a storytelling performance with Lisa Schneidau, and writing and producing four Dartmoor Story films for the DNPA. When she’s not out walking the moor, she works around the country as a performer and workshop leader and is often seen out and about with her outdoor visual storytelling show ‘Isabella’s Story Bicycle’.

Access Please note, this event is in the Studio upstairs at Ashburton Arts Centre which accessed by stairs and is not wheelchair-accessible.
