Event Information

Joy writes historical fiction set in the early 1700s in East Yorkshire,
specifically the village of Reighton. Her debut novel,
‘Witch-Bottles and
Windlestraws’
, launched a series of five novels about the Jordan farming
family.
The stories draw on real names and events from parish records, as well as
well-documented historical events such as the Great Storm of 1703 and the
Great Frost of 1709. Through vivid detail of 18th-century life, customs, and
the ever-challenging weather, Joy transports readers to a different era.
Meet Joy to discover how and why she wrote these books, and hear about her
latest publication—a novella set in Regency-era Filey. Based on a real event,
it is written entirely as letters from a young woman on holiday to her friend
in Halifax: ‘The Boy with Mussel Shell Eyes’
.

Kindly supported by Benny’s Bar & Grill, Hope Street.
