Django Chutney have been described as a virtuosic gypsy-jazz “manouche et trois”, due in equal parts for their respect for the genre, an unruly chaotic energy and a huge dose of tongue-in-cheek humour. Their repertoire is seemingly firmly rooted in the 1930s Hot Club era, but suddenly transports you through decades and styles, from New Orleans jazz to Chicago blues and Parisian musette, effortlessly, respectfully, but - most importantly - with true joie de vivre! Tonight they are joined by award-winning jazz violinist, composer and leader of the legendary Budapest Cafe Orchestra Christian Garrick...

Django Chutney combine tightly woven three part vocal harmonies reminiscent of '30s and '40s American vocal groups The Mills Brothers and the Ink Spots; ridiculous guitar show-offery that draws as much from Django Reinhardt as it does from Guthrie Govan, and double bass solos that drag Pops Foster's slap technique kicking and screaming into the 21st century. The Brighton-based trio have been blowing away audiences since 2021.

Special guest Christian Garrick, leader of the legendary Budapest Cafe Orchestra of Harringay and professor of the jazz violin, became the first non-classical violin graduate of London's Royal Academy of Music in 1993; a year later gaining the Academy's top accolade, the DipRAM. He has recorded several solo albums, with his second - 'Different Strokes', named as the Sunday Times Jazz Album of the Year in 1998. While as a solo performer he has played with the likes of Wynton Marsalis, Nigel Kennedy, Bireli Lagrene, Van Morrison and Dolly Parton. He is currently featured heavily on the soundtrack to the tv show Poldark.
